Server Information
The answer sort of depends on what you consider vanilla. Some define vanilla as the usage of the raw server.jar provided by Mojang and anything else added on top is not vanilla, but we feel that is unfair since to maintain a stable Minecraft server with good performance, data logging, and a bunch of other cool stuff we do (like in-game voice chat, world maps, Discord to Minecraft chat integration etc.) a few more addons are necessary.
With pure vanilla, we'd have no defense or ways to mediate the event of a grief, theft, or any game breaking bug exploits. Personally, we feel that Lakehead is the closest to vanilla we can get, while still being able to stand up for ourselves and provide an enjoyable experience to everyone. We don't feature any usual claim, chest shop, TP, clan or economy plugins here that most "semi-vanilla" servers do.
The server will be on the most recent stable version of Minecraft, which is currently 1.21.4. But don't worry if your favorite mod hasn't updated yet or if you can't update to the latest version for some reason. You can still join from versions as old as 1.19. However, we highly recommend everyone use the latest version if possible to have the smoothest experience.
Which is pretty much identical to vanilla so most farms and everything you see from a single player tutorial shall work out of the box.
Yes, even though the server is primarily a Java Minecraft server, we are extending support to all Bedrock Edition players as well! Some features might be a little broken, so feel free to raise a ticket if something is not working as intended.
For voice chat, Bedrock players can join #SMP-VC and perform /dvc start command in-game. @LakePolice will join the Voice chat and you should be able to hear custom music discs and speak/hear in-game players as if you're using the in-game voice chat mod.
No, you are totally welcome to drop out and in whenever you feel like, no set amount of hours required or anything. However, there is a timer to automatically log off AFK players after a set amount of time. This is to ensure that this place doesn't just become a wasteland of dead (AFK) people just waiting around to hoard resources. Any attempt to get past this will result in a ban.
Gameplay Questions
It's for a variety of reasons, one of which is so that a core part of the game isn't essentially skipped, basically removes nether from the game if the roof is the main mode of transport. It is also to facilitate the eventual nether highways and hubs. We recommend all players to build their portals at Y 69 for a seamless integration into the highway once it becomes a thing!
We don't plan to have a centralized shopping district. You can build your shop wherever is convenient for you and post your shop coords at #shops (a picture would be appreciated). You can also build your shops at spawn if you wanted to. We're okay with there being competition, we just want the competition to be healthy, respectful and understanding!
Mending is one of the very few liberties we've taken here at Lakehead to balance the game in a manner that's fit for a whole multiplayer experience. However, we have altered the data packs on the server so that every Wandering Trader is guaranteed at least one mending trade and you can also get mending by loot chests (that includes dungeon chests, treasure chests, and etc).
No. Any use of items, builds, resources of any player that has been banned on the server is strictly prohibited in order to maintain a level of fairness, aka "profiting off of their ban" shall we say. However you can make a ticket/request to have any builds of that player removed. Such as wanting the land it's sitting on or it's in the way of your build, etc.
While we don't wish to dictate how players spend their time on the SMP, we do not wish for players to build farms after farms, hoarding of resources, or isolating themselves from other players. We do wish for this to be a community and have people enjoy the game together.
Plus, while we do allow players to build farms, we also don't want to encourage players to rely solely on farms so as to not lose the other aspects of the game or ruin it for someone who does. Not to mention with too many farms we do run the risk of lagging the server depending on the complexity of the farm or other player's game since not everyone has the same level of ability to play the game. I.e. some playing on phones and console or not having the best computer.
The idea is to focus on the fun, creative, and exploratory aspects of the game rather than rushing to endgame gear. This SMP is all about enjoying the journey at a relaxed pace, and setting a gear limit like this keeps everyone on the same playing field. It also avoids creating a "fear of missing out" situation where players feel pressured to grind for gear instead of genuinely enjoying the experience. Note: This is temporary.
Our motto here is simple: if you can't enjoy the game without netherite, elytra, or maxed-out endgame gear, then this isn't the SMP for you.
Currently we try to avoid updating the server to the latest version to avoid issues with the mods and data packs we use to both run and amplify the player's experience on the server. Once we feel enough time has passed and a majority of bug fixes are done and we don't think updating will cause any damage, then discussions will happen to update the server.
Application Process
The application is basically a vibe check to help weed out any potential troublemakers. For this reason there are no "wrong" answers however we do strongly encourage to only answer "relevant" information. Yes, knowing your religion, or queer identity, where you live, or nationality, height, weight, etc is answering the question of "Tell us about yourself" but does not help us figuring out what kind of person/player you are.
You are still free to add that into your answers but please don't make that your only answer.
Some examples are:
- Submitting duplicate applications with little changes or before the previous one was reviewed (though if you send a quick message saying, "Hey, messed up on first/previous one" or "Wanted to change my answer after submitting" or "Forgot to add something" is fine, you won't be faulted)
- Harassing staff and general members about the status of your application
Each application is reviewed manually by staff members and discussed between them. Some response times could be very quick, others may take longer. Usually done under 24 hours but sometimes might take up to 48 hours. We're all adults here and as with everything else around here, life comes first.
You will receive a DM from the bot stating the status of your application once it's been reviewed.
We usually try to review and whitelist applications simultaneously, there's a chance that we either missed your whitelist, or there was some error in the username provided, in which case, no worries, just create a ticket and we'll sort you out.
First off, one- or two-word answers. Don't do that. The application's just a vibe check, not a court interrogation. There are no wrong answers, so write your heart out. We're not looking for job application-level effort, but if your answers scream "I don't give a fuck about this, why am I even filling this out?" …yeah, hard pass.
You can only link your account once you have been whitelisted/accepted. If you're still having trouble, please feel free to raise a ticket :D
